Pandemic Polemic
COVID polemic is almost endemic
The virus surrounds us and still it confounds us
Deny it or buy it we all just decry it
And gripe about Fauci like COVID’s an ouchie.
We moan about masks and the onerous tasks
Like keeping our distance, at doctors’ insistence.
Our old predilections are like sweet confections
We won’t set aside till the last man has died.
Of course, there are folks who think it’s a hoax,
Who think shots will flay their unique DNA,
Who won’t wear those masks, no matter who asks,
Cause the land of the free means it’s you against me.
A good education has built our great nation
Now prospects are sinking as critical thinking
Has gone out of style from the weight of a pile
Of poop that we see on the Net and TV.
But be of good cheer, hope’s not gone, it’s still here
The pendulum swings, a cleansing it brings.
The anti-vax crowd won’t be cheering so loud
When they win it, my Lord: The Darwin Award.
LA /2022
January 2022
Well, that was fun! Good riddance, 2021! In the future, when you're taking that cup of kindness for -- as my homie Rabbie Burns (he of Alloway, Scotland) would say -- "auld lang syne", kindly do not include 2021. Moses himself couldn't come up with the panoply of plagues that marked 2021. Just to add insult to injury, the year wrapped up by torching entire towns in Colorado then trying to hide the evidence by bringing on a blizzard. But what's done can't be fixed by carping, so lets look forward. 2022 is ahead of us, with all the potential for a happy and productive year. Vaccines and pills might make it possible to open up society and gather normally again. The only thing standing in our way is ... us. Herewith, the January Poem of the Month.
